Depression
What is Depression in ayurvedha?
Depression, a mental health concern, significantly impacts emotions, often causing individuals to feel upset for reasons either known or unknown to their conscious minds. It is a prolonged emotional state that detrimentally affects an individual’s overall well-being, manifesting in various ways such as a loss of interest in activities, alterations in appetite, be it a decrease or increase, and a decline in self-esteem. Notably, depression is not restricted to any specific age group and can manifest in both children and adolescents.
Ayurveda identifies two primary causes for emotional imbalance, contributing to the onset of depression. Firstly, an imbalance occurs when the three Doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha – are not in their optimal states. Secondly, a lack of awareness of one’s deeper, inner self may lead to depression. In exploring Ayurvedic perspectives, it becomes evident that addressing these root causes is essential for achieving emotional harmony and well-being.
